Rajpurohit Community
The Rajpurohit is an Aryan tribal caste found primarily in western India and parts of Pakistan. Rajpurohits trace their lineage to Rigvedic warrior priests, embodying both martial and spiritual traditions. During the medieval period, they served as key allies of the Rajput caste, playing a significant role in the sociopolitical landscape of the region. Historical references to the Rajpurohit caste date back to the 9th century, particularly during the era of the Pratiharas. Their prominence grew further under the rule of the Rathore and Sisodia Rajputs.
The Rajpurohit community has historically been concentrated in western and northwestern Rajasthan, where they held significant jagirdaris (land grants). Smaller populations are found in border regions of Gujarat and Pakistan, with a limited presence in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh.
